
Adele Mara April 28, 1923 - May 7, 2010) was an American singer, actress, and dancer, who appeared in films during the 1940s and 1950s, as well as on television during the 1950s and 1960s. Under the name professional of Adele St. Mara, she was signed to Columbia Pictures[citation required] and gained experience in the studio's "B" features as well as comedy shorts. This title was soon changed to Adele Mara. Mara was a receptionist in Three Stooges' film I Can Hardly Wait. Mara Brooks and Leslie Brooks portrayed the sisters in the character of Rita Hayworth in Fred Astaire's film You Were Never Lovelier. She plays the lead female character in Alias Boston Blackie (1942) in which she plays the sister of a falsely arrested and released prisoner. She moved to Republic Pictures after her Columbia contract was removed. In Republic Pictures, she was a part of Westerns and outdoor adventures. [citation needed] She starred in The Vampire's Ghost, Wake of the Red Witch which starred John Wayne, Angel in Exile (leading lady), Sands of Iwo Jima with John Wayne in which she was John Agar's love-interest, California Passage (leading lady) as well as Don Siegel's Count the Hours (supporting role).
